No. 152 Everett Cemetary

Evergreen Cemetery
4504 Broadwat
Everett, WA

MAP IT

Established in the 1890's the Evergreen Cemetery covers over 100 acres of rolling hills landscape dotted with many century-old plantings and ‘state champion’ trees in south Everett west of I-5 Interstate. Over 50,000 Puget Sound residence are buried here from prominent families, to important business founders, teachers, photographers, saloon owners, bankers, soldiers, and regular citizens.
Evergreen is also known for the Rucker Mausoleum, a 30-foot Washington granite pyramid resting on a stone-encased earthen plinth, designed by F.W. Ladd of Seattle and constructed at a cost of $30,000. This mausoleum has a large door of Red Beach granite from Maine. The chapel space inside is surmounted by a large dome with four art glass windows, and at one time contained a gas chandelier. There are 22 crypts, with fitted closures made of polished Barre granite from Vermont. A large, seated bronze figure of Jane Rucker once stood atop the doorway.
Many individuals interred in Evergreen Cemetery connect Everett to national news and events: approximately 150 veterans of the American Civil War, four governors (from Washington, Minnesota, and the Dakota Territories), two United States Senators, and the great-great-great grandmother of President Barack Obama.

No. 151 Gum Wall

The Market Theater Gum Wall
1428 Post Alley, Seattle, WA 98101

MAP IT

Located on the north end of Post Alley, underneath Pike Place Market, sticks the growing city and touristy attraction of the Gum Wall. Things started to stick in the early 1990s, when people, irritated that they had to wait in line to get tickets to the Market Theater, stuck chewing gum on the wall. At first, they would use the gum to stick small coins to the wall, but in time, the tradition of the coins disappeared, and the gum remained.
Theater attendants scraped the Gum Wall twice, but gave up in 1999, when it became a certified tourist attraction of Seattle. Now it is filled with thousands of pieces of chewing gum, of any color imaginable. And, as the wall grows, the chewing gum art becomes more sophisticated. You’ll find names written with pieces of gum, and symbols like hearts or the peace sign.
But, the Seattle Gum Wall is also one of the germiest tourist destinations on Earth. In a ranking made by Trip Advisor, it came in second place, after Ireland’s Blarney Stone.

MAP IT

It takes a special company with a vision for seeing the large picture to take on the goal of collecting and preserving some of aviation's largest achievements. Evergreen International Aviation, Inc a company known for its heavy lifters such as the modified Boeing 747-400 Dreamlifter Cargo Freighter, the forest fire fighting aerial Supertanker capable of dropping over 20,500 gallons of water or retardant and its fleet of heavy lift helicopters.
Founded in the memory of Captain Michael King Smith, the exhibits celebrate the lives of innovators, pilots, and veterans who courageously pioneered flight in these remarkable machines.
Established in 1991 the Evergreen Aviation and Space Museum has been adding more exhibit space to house its growing collection of aviation history. The campus currently features 2 main buildings for its aviation and space themed exhibit halls, an indoor water park and an IMAX Movie theater. Under construction and planned for a 2014 opening is a resort hotel.

In 1988 the Disney Corporation purchased the land and facility which housed  the Spruce Goose (Hughes H-4 Hercules) in Long Beach, California. After Disney's plan for a Maritime Attraction was scrapped they announced that it was planning on converting the land and buildings into movie sound stages and were planning on scudding and scraping the Flying Boat Spruce Goose. In 1992, the Evergreen Museum won the bid with a proposal to build a museum around the aircraft and feature it as a central exhibit.

No. 149 Lincoln City, Oregon

Lincoln City, Oregon
 Highway 101

 MAP IT

Lincoln City is a small quaint oceanfront town along US Hwy 101. The beaches are sandy and very wide. During low tide the beach can be up to 2oo yards deep. The town has about 7000 year round residence and in the summer months can swell 2x to 3x with many tourist flocking to the pacific ocean on holiday trips. If you are planning to travel to the Oregon coast I suggest booking early since hotel rates will be 4-5 times higher in the spring and summer versus the fall and winter.
The northern part of the town features newly widened streets and walkways along 4 city blocks of storefronts that feature everything from handmade arts&crafts to kites and candy shops.
