The Bell Harbor Marina along Alaskan way is just north of the Seattle Aquarium and Pier 63. There are roughly 70 vessels ranging from dinghis to 150' yachts. On occasion there will be a larger cruise liner docked here as well. Depending on conditions the Olympic Mountain range can be visible in the background.

No. 107 Father and Son Fountain

Father and Son is a fountain part of the Olympic Sculpture Park permanent collection. Finished in 2006 by internationally acclaimed artist Louise Bourgeois and is comprised of stainless steel, aluminum, water and bronze bell. Installed in 2007, it stands on the west end of the Olympic Sculpture Park at the intersection of Alaskan Way and Broad Street.
 The sculpture includes models of a nude father and son reaching for each other but the other is obscured by the water. The artist explains that the nudity and obscurity represent vulnerability and the way male familial relationships deteriorate. Each figure will be obscured by water gushing over their surface as Louise Bourgeois described the work in her proposal. The volumes of water will be on a timer to mark the 24 hours of the day, accompanied by the ringing of a bell. On the hour, the water will be lowered to reveal the son. At the next hour when the bell rings, the water will rise hiding the son, while the other mound of water will descend to reveal the father. The figures when revealed will seem to float in the air above the water.  The fountain has been victim of a prank common to water fountains, dish soap, which creates very large amounts of bubbles. This sculpture is particularly vulnerable to corrosion from this because the detergents in the soap react with the metal in the sculptures. Bourgeois' representation of father and son portrays a vulnerable and poignant situation, as the two face each other with arms outstretched, striving to overcome a seemingly insurmountable divide.

Waterfront Chowder Cook-Off

Participating restaurants in the Chowder Cook-Off include Ivar’s, The Edgewater Hotel’s Six Seven Restaurant,  Anthony’s at Pier 66,  Elliott’s Oyster House, Bell Harbor Conference Center, The Crab Pot, and The Fisherman’s Restaurant. Purchase a Chowder Passport at the Festival Information Booth or at any participating restaurant for only $5 and you’ll receive a delicious 3 ounce sample of chowder from each restaurant. Sampling stations are located at the participating restaurant. All proceeds benefit the Seattle Propeller Club’s charities.

Vessel Tours :

Canadian Navy's Glendyne, Seattle Maritime Academy Instructor, Global Diving’s Munson, King County Research Vessel Liberty, Seattle Harbor Patrol and Seattle Sea Scouts Propeller.  In addition, the Port of Seattle will have their Bomb Squad Truck and Dive Truck and the Coast Guard will have a trailered vessel on the plaza at Pier 66. Also, look for displays from Puget Sound Maritime and Captain's.

No. 106 Pier 62/63

Located along the downtown waterfront Pier 62/63 jets out into Elliot Bay as an expansive open area that used to be the former site of the annual Summer Nights at the Pier concert series, at which performances were punctuated by the sound of passing trains and trolleys, and docking and departing ferries. Although occasionally hosting other special events, for most of the rest of the year the pier provides a place to stroll out over the water to view Elliott Bay and the Olympic Mountains to the west, and the Seattle skyline to the east. The Piers are aged and deteriorating, and can no longer bear the load of heavy weights.

Piers 62 & 63 are a perfect destination for an evening stroll if you live up on Queen Anne, Capitol or First Hill.  There are always a lot of tourists in the waterfront area but I think this makes for good people watching.

The downtown Seattle waterfront has a new attraction on the back of Pier 57. Opened for business on June 29th, 2012 Seattle's Great Wheel is a 175 foot tall Big Wheel type "Ferris Wheel" with 42 enclosed gondolas that rotates 40 feet out over Elliot Bay behind Pier 57. The 42 air conditioned gondolas each hold up to six passengers, and there's also a VIP gondola with a glass bottom floor and four leather seats. VIP tickets are $25 and include a Seattle Great Wheel tee-shirt and a shorter wait time. Tickets for the VIP gondola are available only at the pier and the gondola cannot be reserved for a specific time. All rides last about 12 minutes and include three rotations.
