A bright blue sky and warm temperatures accompanied today's Fly Day at Paine Field. Its hard to want to stay indoors with such a good weather briefing. And pilots and aircraft a like felt the same way. It was a busy day at KPAE. Current construction on Runway 34R/16L means that the western Runway 34L/16R is the only active runway for General Aviation, Flight Schools, Boeing Test Flights, NAS Whidbey F-18 Hornets and the Vintage aircraft housed at Paine Field. Amongst the GA traffic a few Boeing 787s, 777, 747s also returned from the wild blue yonder .
The Collings Foundation is in town over Father's Day Weekend which added to the resident aircraft buzzing the shoreline of Mukilteo which included B-17, B-25, B-25, P-51, P-51, P-47 and a Mig-29.
The next Fly Day will be on June 29th at 12pm featuring Hellcat and Zero for "Pacific Legends Day"

Father & Son Flight Demonstration Pilots Bud and Ross Granley took to the sky in the P-51D Mustang and P-47 Thunderbolt and put on a very tight formation flight for 30 minutes.

In August 2012 Paul Allen's Flying Heritage Collection broke ground on a new 26,00 square foot hangar adjacent to its current 1950s-era 51,000-square-foot hangar formerly used by Alaska Airlines as maintenance hangar until mid 1960s.
The new 26,000 square foot hangar features a 49-seat movie theater, houses ground attack equipment such as M4A1 Sherman Tank, large searchlight and generator, Flak 88mm anti-aircraft. Its also the current home to the MiG-29UB Fulcrum, P-47 Thunderbolt, P-51 Mustang, F6U Hellcat.
The Flying Heritage Collection now has 19 aircraft and numerous tanks and a dozen artifacts on display daily from 10am to 5pm. Adults $12 | Seniors/Military $10 | Youth $8

To check fares and ferry schedules visit Washington State Ferry Rates. The Puget Sound is a tidal waterway that influences the width of the public beach. Both during high and low tide Mukilteo Beach makes for great landscape and seascape photography. The Mukilteo Lighthouse Park is a popular senior, engagement and wedding photography backdrop for newly weds and families as well.
The sun sets behind the Olympic Mountain range and Whidbey Island. So if you are planning to take a beach stroll prior to sunset for some photography shots keep in mind that the sun will set sooner because of the geography of the mountains to the west. Just east of Mukilteo lies Paine Field Airport home to Boeing 747,757,767,777, and 787 Dreamliner production lines. The airport has multiple public access points for easy plane spotting and has a great collection of vintage aircraft on display at 3 aviation museums.

The planes within the Flying Heritage Collection were created at a time when aeronautical discovery had evolved to aviation mastery. Finely crafted by distinguished design bureaus with leading technologies of the 1930s and 1940s, the main emphasis of the collection includes combat aircraft from World War II.
Examples include U.S., British, German, Russian and Japanese types, which were often pitted against each other in great air battles. These rare survivors were researched, hunted down and sometimes recovered from former battlegrounds and airfields. While a few specimens were rebuilt by previous owners, the majority on display have received restoration of the highest authenticity.
In 1998, Paul G. Allen began acquiring and preserving these iconic warriors and workhorses, many of which are the last of their kind. Allen's passion for aviation and history, and his awareness of the increasing rarity of original WWII aircraft, motivated him to restore these artifacts to the highest standard of authenticity and share them with the public.
While the education they provide is significant, we hope you take special pleasure in knowing that these historic aircraft are not meant simply for display in a static museum environment. As part of the Flying Heritage Collection, their destiny is to return once more to the sky, where they were always meant to be.
The Flying Heritage Collection is operated by Friends of Flying Heritage, a 501 (c)(3) organization committed to educating the public about these rare, historic aircraft.
