On Saturday October 27th, 2012 the City of Mukilteo opened its first off-leash dog park along the Japanese Gulch area after a 3 year effort. Japanese Gulch Off Leash Dog area is officially called "Tails and Trails Dog Park" and is part of Japanese Gulch Park. The 3/4 acres open area features 2 fenced play areas. A smaller play area for shy dogs still under development and a larger fenced in area for the roudy bunch. Construction of the dog park took place over the summer leaving little time for new grass to take hold. There is a good amount of wood chips on the ground but until the sown grass takes hold in 2013 any recent rainfall will turn both play areas into large mud fields.
Plan on bringing towels to dry off your pets legs and remove mud from their paws and wear appropriate footwear until spring 2013.
The park provides 2 doggy poop bag stations but it is always a good idea to bring your own a long just in case they run out. Within the play areas there are paw themed benches and a concrete tunnel for dogs to run through.
Outside of the large play area is a shelter for those owners trying to stay out of the elements with room for about 8 adults.
