Orcas Island’s off-leash area is located adjacent to the Port of Orcas
Day Park at the corner of Mt. Baker and North Beach Roads just north of
Eastsound. Formally called the Eastsound Off Leash Dog Area, it’s about
an acre in size, with grassy and wood-chipped areas, dog water, Mutt
Mitts, a dog “toy box” and picnic tables. The creation and maintenance of the park is really a grassroots effort.
The park is supported by donations of funds and services from many
islanders and visitors including the The Port of Orcas, which generously
donated the use of the land until it is needed for airport purposes. There has also been an effort by many users to keep the water containers
full and the area clean – and help out to spread out wood chips to help
make the park more usable during the wet winter weather.
